Comments on other works

Spiritual

"... a true gem for the modern wind ensemble. His first work for band, it was extremely progressive and has stood the test of time. It still sounds amazingly fresh with its blend of jazz and neo-romantic charm."

~ William Berz, Conductor,

Rutgers University Wind Ensemble

Theme & Variatiations

"... masterfully scored for winds while retaining the quality and character of the great master's skills. This is a wonderful vehicle for wind band students to experience the music of Beethoven first hand!"

~ Jack Stamp, Conductor/Composer,

Indiana University of Pennsylvania

Missouri Shindig

“... one of the few works for band that can truly be called Americana. The flavor of Copland’s ‘Hoe-down' resonates through this charming yet challenging opus. It is a joy to perform!”

~ Stanley DeRusha, Director of Orchestral Activities, Butler University

July Sale of the Month

Galop

by Arthur Bird

 Score & Parts $56.

Extra Scores $8.

This month's 20% off sale is American composer Arthur Bird's Galop for Band. Expertly orchestrated by Bird, this is a rousing French theater-style galop with a flowing Trio section. Bird composed three works for military band; unfortunately all have been lost except for this surviving Galop.

Believed to have been written between 1908 and 1910 and previously unavailable to the band literature this never before published work is the composer's only surviving work for military band. It has been edited for concert band and brought back to life.

No changes were made to the music, only the reassigning of obscure instruments common to military bands of his day to today's standard instrumentation. A great addition to your library!

For more information see the Grade 3 & 4 page above.

“If you’re looking for that ‘tasty novelty’ to send folks home with a smile on their face, try Arthur Bird’s ‘Galop’. Great fun!”

~ James Croft, Retired Director of Bands, Florida State University

"An outstanding find!  A superb performance edition and important addition to the wind literature.  Bird's 'Galop' is a delightful gem playable by high school and university groups, and the only extant work by this overlooked American composer. Don't miss it!"

~ Artie Clifton, Director of Bands, Jacksonville University
